Futura 2000

Futura 2000 was a prominent graffiti artist on the downtown scene in the 1970's and 80's. He began his career by painting illegally in the New York City subways in the 70's. In the early 80's he showed with other prominent downtown artists, such as Patti Astor, Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Richard Hambleton, and Kenny Scharf.

While most graffiti artists in the 1980's were still focused on lettering, Futura 2000 pioneered the field of abstract street art, which is still prolific to this day.

Futura also worked as an illustrator and graphic designer of record labels.

He is still alive and working as an artist. His most recent project was designing the Hennessey V.S. bottle. His book is set to come out in 2014.
