Debbie Harry

Debbie Harry, born July 1, 1945, was a musician in the downtown scene, best known for being the lead singer in Blondie.

Aside from her singing career, Debbie held a wide variety of jobs, such as a secretary at BBC Radio, a waitress at Max's Kansas City, a go-go dancer, and a Playboy Bunny.

In the late 1960's Debbie began her singing career in a folk rock group The Wind in the Willows. In 1974, she joined The Stilettos, where she met her future boyfriend and Blondie guitarist Chris Stein.

Blondie and Chris started Blondie soon after she left The Stilettos, naming it after the term many men called her after she began bleaching her hair. They began regularly performing at Max's Kansas City and CBGB.

While in Blondie, Debbie became a prominent punk rock icon. She was a regular at Studio 54 and was featured on the cover of Rolling Stone.

In 1999, Harry was deemed the 12th greatest woman of rock and roll by VH1's 100 Greatest Women of Rock & Roll. She has been the inspiration for artists such as Andy Warhol and has also had clothes designed for her shows by Betsey Johnson.

Debbie Harry is still alive today, both acting and touring.
